Business
Pluri Inc., formerly known as Pluristem Therapeutics Inc., is an Israeli biotechnology company engaged in the research, development, and manufacture of placenta-based cell therapy product candidates and cell-based solutions for pharmaceutical, food technology, and agricultural sectors. The company produces proprietary PLX cell therapies, including PLX-PAD composed of maternal mesenchymal stromal cells designed to treat inflammatory conditions, acute muscle injuries, peripheral artery disease, and acute respiratory distress syndrome; PLX-R18 composed of fetal mesenchymal-like cells targeting hematopoietic complications such as those following radiation exposure and hematopoietic cell transplantation; and an allogeneic MAIT cell therapy platform for cancer immunotherapy. In addition, Pluri develops cultivated meat, fish, and seafood products for food technology applications and alternative farming methods in agriculture. Pluri's technology platform centers on 3D cell expansion allowing large-scale, consistent manufacturing of cell therapy products. Recent major developments include Pluri's name change from Pluristem Therapeutics Inc. to Pluri Inc. in July 2022 and the advancement of serum-free media for cell cultivation that reduces contamination risks and dependency on third-party suppliers. The company is in late-stage clinical trials aiming for marketing approval of PLX therapies and has expanded its intellectual property portfolio with new patents on immune cell expansion technologies in the US and Israel. Strategic alliances include a collaboration with Bar-Ilan University to advance cancer immunotherapy and an exclusive agreement with Ukrainian biobank Hemafund to stockpile and develop PLX-R18 as a radiation countermeasure. Additionally, Pluri secured a $30 million equity investment from China-based Innovative Medical to support its development pipeline. Founded in 2001 and headquartered in Haifa, Israel, Pluri operates globally across the pharmaceutical, regenerative medicine, food-tech, and agritech industries. It holds a portfolio of over 140 patents granted in approximately 52 countries.
