Business
Pakistan Oxygen Limited is a Pakistan-based manufacturer and distributor of industrial, medical, and specialty gases, welding consumables, and associated engineering solutions. Founded in 1949 and headquartered in Karachi, Pakistan, the company operates primarily across three core business segments: Industrial and Medical Gases, Welding and Hardfacing, and Medical Engineering Services. In its Industrial and Medical Gases segment, the company manufactures and distributes atmospheric and process gases supplied in liquid bulk and compressed cylinder forms; including liquid oxygen, compressed oxygen, liquid nitrogen, gaseous nitrogen, liquid argon, compressed argon, dissolved acetylene, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, helium, and nitrous oxide; specialized medical gas products such as Entonox, medical air, and carbon dioxide USP; specialty and high-purity gases for laboratory, analytical, and calibration applications; gas mixtures for metal fabrication and laser cutting, including shielding gas formulations; and food-grade gases utilized in modified atmosphere packaging, cryogenic freezing, and beverage carbonation. In its Welding and Hardfacing segment, the company produces and markets arc welding equipment, gas cutting apparatus, oxy-fuel equipment, and plasma cutters; manual metal arc welding electrodes under proprietary brand names such as Matador and Fortrex; stainless steel, low-alloy, and hardfacing electrodes; continuous welding consumables including solid MIG wires, flux-cored wires, and submerged arc wires; and related safety gear, gas regulators, flowmeters, flashback arrestors, and personal protective equipment. In its Medical Engineering Services segment, the company provides turnkey design, engineering, installation, testing, and commissioning of hospital medical gas pipeline systems, central gas supply manifolds, vacuum plants, anesthetic gas scavenging systems, bedhead units, and cryogenic storage tanks, alongside routine maintenance and safety audit services. The company serves a wide range of end markets, including healthcare facilities, steel manufacturing, shipbreaking, oil and gas, petrochemicals, chemicals, automotive, construction, glass, pharmaceuticals, and food and beverage processing. It operates production plants, air separation units, carbon dioxide liquefaction units, and distribution centers across major industrial hubs in Pakistan, including Karachi, Port Qasim, Taxila, Lahore, Mehmood Kot, and Hattar, supported by a dedicated fleet of cryogenic road tankers and cylinder distribution vehicles. In recent strategic and operational developments, Pakistan Oxygen Limited has undertaken significant capital expenditure programs to expand its production and supply capabilities. The company commissioned a high-capacity, state-of-the-art Air Separation Unit in northern Pakistan to reinforce its bulk liquid oxygen and nitrogen supply network for healthcare and industrial sectors across the region. Additionally, the company has expanded its on-site pipeline supply infrastructure and long-term over-the-fence supply contracts with large industrial consumers, invested in renewable solar power generation across its key manufacturing facilities to optimize energy efficiency and mitigate utility cost escalation, and integrated advanced telemetry and remote-monitoring technologies across customer cryogenic bulk installations to enhance supply chain reliability and distribution logistics.
