Business
Shahmurad Sugar Mills Limited is a Pakistan-based agribusiness and chemical manufacturing company engaged in the processing of sugarcane and the commercial production of refined sugar, ethanol, and allied bio-industrial products. Founded in 1979 and headquartered in Karachi, Pakistan, the company operates as a member of the Al-Noor Group, maintaining its integrated production facilities in Jhok Sharif, District Sujawal, Sindh. The company structures its operations into two primary business segments: the Sugar Division and the Distillery Division. Shahmurad Sugar Mills Limited manufactures and distributes a comprehensive product portfolio comprising refined white crystalline sugar for industrial food and beverage processors and household consumers; high-purity Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA 96% and above) utilized in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and industrial chemical applications; Anhydrous Alcohol (99.9%) for technical and fuel blending applications; B-grade industrial ethanol; raw molasses; organic press mud bio-fertilizer developed from milling byproducts; and bagasse utilized for captive steam and electricity cogeneration. The company operates a crushing capacity of approximately 14,500 metric tons of sugarcane per day and an ethanol distillation capacity of approximately 270,000 liters per day (70,000 metric tons per annum), catering to the domestic Pakistani market for refined sugar while exporting ethanol derivatives to international markets across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In recent operational developments, the company has undertaken strategic modernization initiatives across its distillery and milling infrastructure, including upgrading automated distillation columns to enhance alcohol recovery and export product purity, commissioning on-site solar power installations to complement its bagasse-based cogeneration facility and optimize thermal and electrical energy consumption, and expanding its Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and bio-composting operations to align with international environmental and sustainability standards for export compliance.
