- PGIM Total Return Bond ETF (PTRB) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks total return through a mix of current income and capital appreciation by investing in a diversified portfolio of fixed income securities across multiple sectors. The fund, part of PGIM ETF Trust, primarily allocates at least 80% of its investable assets to bonds with maturities greater than one year, including U.S. government securities, mortgage-backed securities, asset-backed securities (such as collateralized debt obligations and collateralized loan obligations), investment-grade and high-yield corporate debt securities, bank loans, emerging market debt, commercial mortgage-backed securities, non-agency residential mortgage-backed securities, and foreign debt securities; it may invest up to 30% in below-investment-grade high-yield or junk bonds and up to 30% in foreign debt, including emerging markets, with an average maturity of approximately 7.4 years and duration of 5.9 years. Launched on December 2, 2021, and listed on NYSE Arca, PTRB benchmarks against the Bloomberg US Aggregate Bond Index and maintains net assets of approximately $665 million as of December 2025, with a total annual expense ratio of 0.49%.
PTRB is managed by PGIM Investments LLC, with subadvisory services provided by PGIM Fixed Income—the largest public fixed income unit of PGIM, Inc., managing $862 billion in assets as of March 31, 2025—and PGIM Limited, an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of PGIM based in London. The portfolio management team includes Robert Tipp (Chief Investment Strategist and Head of Global Bonds), Gregory Peters (Co-Chief Investment Officer), Richard Piccirillo (Co-Head of Multi-Sector Fixed Income Strategies), Matthew Angelucci (Senior Portfolio Manager), and Tyler Thorn (Co-Senior Portfolio Manager). Headquartered in Newark, New Jersey, at Prudential Tower, 655 Broad Street, the fund targets individual and institutional investors seeking a core-plus fixed income strategy with exposure to U.S. and global markets, including significant holdings in U.S. Treasuries (10.4%), agency MBS (22.1%), investment-grade corporates (20.6%), ABS (18.2%), and high-yield bonds (8.2%).
Recent developments include sustained asset growth to over $665 million amid strong performance, with year-to-date NAV returns of 7.17% as of December 15, 2025, and recognition of PGIM as Barron’s #4 Best Fund Family for the one-year period ended December 31, 2024; the fund has also issued consistent monthly dividends totaling 1.9832 for 2025 year-to-date and outperformed its benchmark in Q1 2025 on a gross basis. Institutional interest has increased, evidenced by Wealth Enhancement Advisory Services LLC acquiring shares in September 2025 and Janney Montgomery Scott LLC raising its stake by 13.8% in Q2 2025. PGIM Fixed Income continues to leverage its 150-year heritage in fixed income management since 1875, with no reported acquisitions, partnerships, or structural changes specific to PTRB in the last 1-2 years.
