Business
AdvisorShares Q Dynamic Growth ETF (QPX) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks long-term capital growth by targeting equity market upside while tactically managing downside risk during periods of abnormal market volatility. The fund invests primarily as a fund-of-funds in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) spanning a broad variety of equities across market capitalizations, styles, and sectors; fixed income categories including short-term instruments; and commodities such as gold to optimize risk/reward characteristics. It employs a proprietary quantitative process called Q Methodology™, which uses heavy-tail distribution analysis and high-performance computing to simulate tens of thousands of portfolio scenarios, targeting expected drawdowns similar to those of a typical balanced fund; the portfolio is re-optimized monthly, with potential mid-month adjustments triggered by the Q Implied Volatility Index™ (QIX), a daily-reviewed proprietary indicator that shifts allocations toward defensive fixed income or cash during elevated volatility. QPX holds a diversified portfolio of sector-specific and thematic ETFs, including Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK), SPDR Gold Shares (GLD), iShares U.S. Technology ETF (IYW), Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI), and Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY), among others, with current allocations emphasizing technology (approximately 39%), industrials, consumer discretionary, and commodities. The fund features a fulcrum fee structure for its management fee, which adjusts between 0.90% and 1.10% based on performance relative to the S&P 500 Index, with a net expense ratio capped at 1.45% through contractual waivers; options trading is available on its NYSE Arca-listed shares. QPX targets investors seeking broad-market equity-like returns with enhanced risk management, fitting as a core equity allocation in traditional portfolios, and operates within the large blend or large growth segment of U.S. multi-asset strategies. Launched on December 28, 2020, alongside the related AdvisorShares Q Portfolio Blended Allocation ETF (QPT), QPX represented a strategic introduction of ThinkBetter’s Q Methodology™ to the actively managed ETF market by AdvisorShares Investments, LLC, the fund sponsor headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, and founded in 2006. No major acquisitions, funding rounds, partnerships, or product relaunches specific to QPX have occurred in the last 1-2 years; the fund continues its core operations with ongoing portfolio rebalancing and maintains a 5-star Morningstar rating in the Large Blend category as of November 30, 2025, based on risk-adjusted returns among 1,211 funds. AdvisorShares, as issuer, focuses on thematic and actively managed ETFs across sectors like equity, fixed income, and alternatives, serving institutional and retail investors primarily in the U.S. market.
