Business
Qatar General Insurance & Reinsurance Company Q.P.S.C. is a Qatar-based composite insurance and reinsurance enterprise engaged in the provision of conventional and Islamic (Takaful) insurance underwriting, reinsurance services, real estate development, and investment management. Founded in 1979 and headquartered in Doha, Qatar, the company serves individual, commercial, and institutional clients across the State of Qatar and the wider Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The company is publicly traded on the Qatar Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol QGRI. The company operates primarily through three core segments: Insurance and Reinsurance, Real Estate, and Investments. Its insurance operations encompass an extensive range of personal and commercial lines provided through its conventional underwriting units and its Shari'ah-compliant subsidiary, General Takaful. Its personal insurance offerings include private motor insurance, covering comprehensive damage and compulsory third-party liability; individual and family medical health coverage; life and personal accident protection; domestic homeowners and property insurance; international travel assistance; marine pleasure craft and hull coverage; and specialized retail policies such as jewelry and domestic worker protection. Its corporate and commercial solutions include commercial property all-risks and business interruption; onshore and offshore energy, oil, and gas insurance; civil engineering, construction, and erection all-risks coverage; machinery breakdown and electronic equipment policies; marine cargo, hull, and aviation insurance; general third-party liability, directors and officers (D&O) liability, professional indemnity, and workmen's compensation; corporate group life and health schemes; and treaty and facultative reinsurance arrangements for regional primary insurers. Complementing its underwriting activities, the company engages in real estate investment, asset development, project management, and facility maintenance through specialized subsidiaries, including General Real Estate Company (GRECO) and Mozoon Real Estate Company, maintaining a substantial portfolio of landmark assets in Doha such as General Tower and Mozoon Towers. The group also holds strategic interests in construction contracting, industrial manufacturing, hospitality, and event management. In recent developments, the company has executed strategic, operational, and governance restructuring initiatives aimed at de-risking its balance sheet, enhancing enterprise risk management frameworks, and streamlining core technical underwriting. In 2026, the company appointed H.E. Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the 2026–2028 term and secured an outlook revision to stable from AM Best, supported by balance sheet stabilization and improved operating performance. The group achieved a major financial turnaround following a multi-year balance sheet remediation program, posting consistent net profit growth driven by enhanced underwriting margins and investment portfolio optimization, while actively accelerating the rollout of digital insurance portals and modernizing its Islamic Takaful product lines.
