Pickens Morningstar Renewable Energy Response ETF (RENW) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the performance, before fees and expenses, of the Quantix Energy Transition Index. The fund provides exposure to at least 10 different commodities focused on or expected to benefit from the global transition to low-carbon and renewable energy sources, including futures contracts on primary aluminum, nickel, zinc, and lead. It achieves its investment objective by investing through a wholly-owned Cayman Islands subsidiary that employs excess return swaps on the index; net expense ratio of 0.80%.
RENW holds approximately 10 positions, with major exposures including LME Primary Aluminium Futures (123.34% weight), US Dollar (103.88%), LME Nickel Futures (55.72%), and LME Zinc Futures (42.34%), alongside offsetting short positions in select futures contracts. The ETF targets institutional and retail investors interested in commodities linked to energy transition themes, such as renewable infrastructure and decarbonization materials, with a dividend yield of 4.75% and annual payout frequency.
Launched on July 13, 2022, and managed by Harbor Capital Advisors, Inc., headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the fund operates primarily in U.S. markets with global commodity exposure. In November 2024, Harbor Capital Advisors announced the liquidation of RENW, alongside the Harbor Disruptive Innovation ETF (INNO), with trading ceasing and final liquidation scheduled for on or about December 19, 2024, as part of a strategic review to align offerings with client needs. Assets under management stood at approximately $11.93 million prior to inactivation on December 12, 2024.
