- WisdomTree Emerging Markets ESG Fund (RESE) is an exchange-traded fund that provides actively managed exposure to emerging market equities selected based on proprietary factors and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) characteristics. The fund invests primarily in equity securities of issuers in emerging markets, including regions such as Asia Pacific (approximately 76%), North, Central and South America (16%), and Europe (8%), with significant country allocations like Taiwan (20%); it employs a quantitative, model-based approach incorporating fundamental, technical, and ESG metrics to pursue capital appreciation. WisdomTree Emerging Markets ESG Fund, managed by WisdomTree Asset Management, Inc., was launched on April 7, 2016, as part of WisdomTree's suite of smart beta and thematic ETFs.
In a major strategic change announced in December 2023, WisdomTree decided to close and liquidate the RESE fund, along with the WisdomTree International ESG Fund and WisdomTree U.S. ESG Fund, with liquidation completed by February 2024 due to factors including low assets under management (around $22 million at the time) and illiquid holdings such as Russian securities valued at zero amid geopolitical sanctions. Prior to closure, the fund distributed a 3.04% dividend yield and maintained a net expense ratio of 0.32%, positioning it as a sleeve for ESG-focused emerging markets exposure within diversified portfolios. No subsequent relaunches or reorganizations of RESE have been reported.
WisdomTree Investments, Inc., the fund sponsor headquartered in New York, NY, was founded in 1985 and operates globally with offices in North America, EMEA (including London and Dublin), and support in South America; it offers over 200 exchange-traded products across equities, fixed income, commodities, currencies, and alternatives, targeting institutional and retail investors seeking innovative, factor-based strategies.
