Business
ReGen Biologics Inc. (RGBOQ) designs, develops, manufactures, and markets medical devices for the repair and regeneration of soft tissue in humans, primarily targeting orthopedic applications through its proprietary collagen matrix technology with applications in orthopedics; general surgery; spine; cardiovascular; and drug delivery. The company's principal products include the Menaflex collagen meniscus implant device, utilized in surgical procedures for the reinforcement and repair of soft tissue injuries in the medial meniscus, and the SharpShooter Tissue Repair System, an instrument enabling surgeons to place needles in hard-to-reach meniscus locations. Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Hackensack, New Jersey, ReGen Biologics markets its products in the United States, the European Union, the Republic of South Africa, Canada, Australia, Chile, and Japan. In 2011, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware following the FDA's rescission of 510(k) clearance for the Menaflex device, with the proceedings culminating in a court-approved Chapter 11 liquidation plan on October 14, 2011; the firm, formerly known as Aros Corp. until its name change in November 2002, also established a wholly-owned Swiss subsidiary, ReGen Biologics AG, in March 2005 to support international distribution efforts.
