- Lordstown Motors Corp. (RIDE) operates as a developer of electric light-duty vehicles targeted at the commercial fleet market; it offers the Endurance full-size all-wheel-drive battery-electric pickup truck featuring independent hub motors at each wheel for simplified drivetrain mechanics, reduced maintenance, and capabilities including up to 250 miles of range, 600 horsepower, and a 7,500-pound towing capacity. Founded in 2018 by Steve Burns and headquartered in Lordstown, Ohio, at the former General Motors Lordstown Assembly plant, the company initially pursued production of the Endurance there following a 2019 acquisition of the facility, a 2020 licensing deal with Workhorse Group for pickup truck intellectual property, and a reverse merger with a SPAC for Nasdaq listing. In recent major changes, Lordstown Motors filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2023 amid disputes with manufacturing partner Foxconn over unfulfilled investment commitments, sold its plant to Foxconn for $230 million in 2022, ceased Endurance production in 2023, transferred key assets including intellectual property, machinery, and records related to electric vehicle design and production to LAS Capital (affiliated with founder Burns) for $10.2 million in October 2023, reemerged in March 2024 as Nu Ride Inc. with approximately $78 million in cash and $1 billion in net operating loss carryforwards now headquartered in New York City, and continues trading on OTC markets while pursuing business combinations amid ongoing litigation with Foxconn and SEC settlements.
