Headquartered in Buffalo, New York, the company was formed in 2004, commenced operations in 2006 via acquisition of Lower Lakes Towing, went public in 2011, was taken private by American Industrial Partners in 2018, and is now backed by Duration Capital Partners. In July 2024, Rand Logistics acquired Andrie LLC, a specialist in liquid bulk transportation, expanding its offerings to encompass both dry and liquid commodities and strengthening its position in the Great Lakes marine transportation market.
