Founded in 1959 and headquartered in Chennai, India, the company operates five manufacturing plants in Chennai (Ponneri), Hyderabad, Trichy, Tumakuru, and additional facilities in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Pondicherry, and Uttarakhand, with exports to over 30 countries and certifications including ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949:2016, and Deming Prize recipient in 2005. In recent developments, Rane (Madras) received National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approval in March 2025 for the merger of Rane Brake Lining Limited and Rane Engine Valve Limited into itself, simplifying group structure, unlocking synergies, and creating a larger entity with combined turnover exceeding Rs 3,373 crore on a proforma basis as of late 2023; additionally, in June 2025, it monetized 3.48 acres of land in Velachery, Chennai, to Canopy Living LLP for debt reduction and operational consolidation, retaining 1.02 acres for a new centralized office facility.
