- AAM Sawgrass U.S. Small Cap Quality Growth ETF (NYSE Arca: SAWS) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks risk-adjusted returns, upside participation, downside protection, low standard deviation and long-term capital appreciation through investment in U.S.-listed equity securities of small-capitalization companies. The Fund invests at least 80% of its net assets in small-cap issuers with market capitalizations between $300 million and the market capitalization of the largest company in the Russell 2000 Index (approximately $15.9 billion as of December 31, 2024); it employs a proprietary quantitative model evaluating 26 factors across seven groupings including business valuation, equity valuation, profitability, earnings quality, price volatility, smoothed momentum and sales, earnings and margin stability, supplemented by qualitative fundamental research to select 70-90 high-quality growth stocks demonstrating consistent earnings growth, low price volatility and attractive valuations. Launched on July 30, 2024, SAWS is advised by Advisors Asset Management, Inc. (AAM), founded in 1979 and headquartered in Monument, Colorado, with sub-advisory services provided by Sawgrass Asset Management, LLC, a 100% employee-owned boutique firm founded in 1998 and based in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The Fund targets institutional and retail investors seeking exposure to the small-cap growth segment of the U.S. equity market, with principal investment professionals including Patrick Riley, Dean McQuiddy and others from Sawgrass, alongside Vident Asset Management portfolio managers.
In August 2024, AAM launched SAWS alongside the companion AAM Sawgrass U.S. Large Cap Quality Growth ETF (SAWG) and AAM Brentview Dividend Growth ETF (BDIV) as part of a strategic expansion of its active ETF platform in partnership with Sawgrass and Brentview Investment Management. AAM, majority-owned by Sun Life since its $214 million acquisition in September 2022, has continued aggressive ETF growth into 2025, including the July 2025 debut of the AAM Todd International Intrinsic Value ETF (TIIV) sub-advised by Todd Asset Management and the October 2025 launch of the AAM Crescent CLO ETF (CLOC), the lowest-cost CLO ETF available, in collaboration with Crescent Capital Group. In November 2025, AAM received the ETF Express award for Best Mixed-Allocation ETF Issuer ($100m–$1bn), recognizing its accelerating ETF momentum and innovation across asset classes. These developments underscore AAM's commitment to active management solutions amid rising demand for specialized ETFs, with SAWS maintaining a low expense ratio of 0.55% and portfolio turnover of 12% for the fiscal period ended October 31, 2024.
