Business
Starbucks Corporation is a global roaster, marketer and retailer of specialty coffee and other beverages, operating coffeehouses and licensed locations worldwide from its headquarters in Seattle, Washington, where it was founded in 1971. The company offers brewed coffee and espresso beverages; cold drinks, teas and refreshers; whole-bean and ground coffees; single-serve products; ready-to-drink beverages; and food items including pastries, breakfast sandwiches and lunch offerings, while also licensing its brands across grocery and foodservice channels under Starbucks Coffee, Starbucks Reserve, Teavana, Seattle’s Best Coffee, Ethos and Princi. Starbucks conducts business through its North America, International and Channel Development segments, serving consumers through company-operated and licensed stores as well as packaged goods and at-home coffee products. In the past 1-2 years, the company has been executing a broad “Back to Starbucks” turnaround under chief executive Brian Niccol, including menu simplification, service and labor investments, new store-format and coffeehouse design initiatives, the rollout of new operational tools and enhanced loyalty features, and a strategic joint venture with Boyu Capital to operate Starbucks retail in China, underscoring its focus on improving customer experience and accelerating growth in key markets.
