- Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Company Limited, a holding subsidiary of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), engages in the production of petroleum and petrochemical products through integrated refining and chemical operations. The company manufactures refined oil products including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, liquefied petroleum gas, heavy oil, naphtha, asphalt, sulfur and petroleum coke; intermediate petrochemicals such as ethylene, propylene, butadiene, benzene, toluene, paraxylene, PTA, acrylonitrile, ethylene glycol, ethylene oxide, vinyl acetate and C5 fractions; synthetic resins and plastics comprising polyethylene, polypropylene and polyvinyl alcohol; and synthetic fiber raw materials and fibers including polyester chips, polyester staple, polyester industrial yarn and acrylic fiber. Founded in 1972 and headquartered in Jinshan District, Shanghai, the company restructured in 1993 to become the first Chinese firm listed on the Shanghai, Hong Kong and New York stock exchanges. In January 2025, Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical announced a 21.31 billion yuan ($2.91 billion) investment to upgrade operations by replacing 18 refining units, enhancing crude processing, boosting ethylene output to 1.20 million tons annually and expanding new material production, with completion targeted within three years pending shareholder approval.
