Business
Skanska AB (publ) is a leading global construction and project development company headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, founded in 1887. The company operates primarily in the construction, residential development, commercial property development, and investment properties segments, serving markets in Sweden, the United States, and broader Europe. Skanska offers a comprehensive range of products and services including construction services for commercial buildings, infrastructure projects, residential housing developments, and engineering projects; development of residential and commercial properties; investment properties with a portfolio of high-quality office buildings; supply and manufacturing of construction materials such as gravel, rock, concrete, asphalt, and road construction materials; in-house fabrication capabilities including prestressed concrete and steel fabrication; and rental services for construction equipment and machinery. The company leverages its mobile and permanent asphalt plants predominantly in Sweden and maintains a substantial fleet of construction machinery. Recent major changes include two new acquisitions in their Investment Properties portfolio focused on prime office assets in Sweden's major cities, expansion of sales volumes in project development reflecting gradual recovery in property markets, and signing of substantial contracts such as a USD 263 million data center construction project in the United States. Skanska is actively engaged in sustainability initiatives, aiming for net zero carbon emissions by 2045, with significant reductions in its carbon footprint achieved in recent years. In early 2024, construction commenced on Skanska’s new sustainable headquarters in Stockholm designed to meet LEED Platinum certification standards, financed in part by a EUR 47 million loan from the Nordic Investment Bank. The company continues strengthening its financial position with increased revenues and robust order bookings through strategic contracts and sustainable development projects. Overall, Skanska operates as a diversified construction and development group with extensive expertise across building, civil infrastructure, and property development in the Nordic region, the United States, and other European markets, combining construction services with project development and investment activities to provide integrated solutions to clients.
