Syntax Stratified SmallCap ETF (SSLY) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to provide investment results that, before expenses, track the performance of the Syntax Stratified SmallCap Index, a stratified-weight version of the S&P SmallCap 600 Index comprising the same constituents reweighted to diversify related business risks using Syntax LLC's proprietary Functional Information System methodology; it invests substantially all, and at least 80%, of its total assets in the securities comprising the index. The fund offers exposure to small-cap U.S. equities across sectors including finance, electronic technology, health technology, technology services, and producer manufacturing, with approximately 603 holdings, a net expense ratio of 0.40%, and assets under management of around $10.34 million as of recent data. Launched on May 28, 2020, and listed on NYSE Arca, SSLY targets investors seeking broad-based small-cap blend strategies with reduced concentration risk compared to traditional market-cap weighting. In a major strategic reorganization completed on September 27, 2024, in partnership with Exchange Traded Concepts LLC and Syntax Advisors LLC, SSLY was merged into the Stratified LargeCap Index ETF (NYSE: SSPY) at an exchange ratio of 0.5813 SSPY shares per SSLY share, resulting in a taxable event for shareholders and ceasing independent operations of SSLY; this consolidation combined assets from multiple Syntax Stratified ETFs including SMDY, SYUS, and SYII into SSPY to streamline offerings and enhance growth potential under ETC's platform. Prior to the reorganization, the fund demonstrated one-year returns of approximately 15.68% and focused primarily on U.S. markets with minor international exposure.
