The company offers a broad portfolio including automotive microcontrollers such as the STM8A and SPC5 series, analog and power management ICs, silicon carbide and gallium nitride power transistors and diodes, MEMS motion and environmental sensors with FlightSense time-of-flight technology, general-purpose STM8 and STM32 Arm Cortex-M microcontrollers, secure microcontrollers for smartcards and NFC, motor drivers including the STSPIN family, wireless connectivity solutions for Bluetooth Low Energy and sub-1GHz networks, serial EEPROM memories, RF and mmW components for 5G infrastructure, proximity sensors and thin-film piezoelectric microactuators; these products enable applications in smart mobility, power and energy management, cloud-connected autonomous devices, ADAS safety systems, electromobility, industrial automation, personal wearables and edge AI. Incorporated in the Netherlands with headquarters in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva, Switzerland, STMicroelectronics was founded in 1987 from the merger of SGS Microelettronica of Italy and Thomson Semiconducteurs of France and operates manufacturing facilities, R&D centers and sales offices worldwide including Europe, Asia, the United States and Greater China. In July 2025, the company entered into an agreement to acquire NXP Semiconductors' MEMS sensors business for approximately US$300 million in 2024 revenue, strengthening its sensor portfolio with complementary technologies focused on automotive safety, industrial sensing and consumer applications while enhancing R&D capabilities through its integrated device manufacturer model. In December 2025, STMicroelectronics secured a €500 million financing tranche from the European Investment Bank as part of a €1 billion credit line to fund R&D and manufacturing expansions at sites in Catania, Agrate and Crolles, Italy and France, with 60% allocated to capacity increases supporting strategic autonomy in semiconductors. The company also announced advancements in panel-level packaging technology at its Tours, France plant with a $60 million investment targeting completion by Q3 2026 for automotive, industrial and consumer products, alongside ongoing partnerships such as a decade-long collaboration with SpaceX for Starlink connectivity components.
