The fund emphasizes high-quality corporate credit exposure with a focus on income, quality, diversification, and liquidity, employing a bottom-up focused, top-down aware investment process that combines macroeconomic and fundamental research to identify undervalued securities with strong risk/reward profiles, supported by strict portfolio construction, sell disciplines, trading strategies, and prudent risk management. Share classes include I shares (STICX), A shares (SAINX), C shares (STIFX), and R6 shares (VRSBX), with daily dividend distributions and an effective duration of approximately 7 years as of recent portfolio characteristics.
Managed by Seix Investment Advisors, a division of Virtus Fixed Income Advisers, LLC and subadviser to the fund since inception, with key portfolio managers Perry Troisi (since 2004), Carlos Catoya (since 2015), and Jonathan Yozzo (since 2015), the fund targets individual and institutional investors in the corporate bond segment of the fixed income market. Sector allocations typically feature industrials (around 58%), financials (around 32%), U.S. Treasuries, utilities, and cash equivalents, benchmarked against the Bloomberg U.S. Corporate Investment Grade Bond Index. As of late 2024, assets under management for the fund complex stood at approximately $47.5 million, with Class I shares launched on November 30, 2001.
The fund operates within Virtus Investment Partners, Inc., a publicly traded multi-boutique asset manager (NYSE: VRTS), with Seix headquartered in Teaneck, New Jersey, and has maintained a focus on investment grade fixed income strategies since Seix's founding in 1992. In July 2022, Virtus reorganized its fixed income subsidiaries, including Seix Investment Advisors, Newfleet Asset Management, and Stone Harbor Investment Partners, into Virtus Fixed Income Advisers, LLC, enabling continued independent operations as divisions while streamlining subadvisory agreements. More recently, in December 2024, Virtus launched the Virtus Seix AAA Private Credit CLO ETF (PCLO), an actively managed ETF subadvised by Seix focusing on high-quality AAA-rated collateralized loan obligations in the private credit sector, leveraging Seix's CLO expertise managing approximately $3.4 billion across 10 vehicles.
