Business
Remgro Limited is a South African investment holding company that manages a diversified portfolio of investments across healthcare, consumer products, financial services, infrastructure, industrial, media, diversified investment vehicles, portfolio investments, and social impact sectors. The company holds significant stakes in key investee companies, including Mediclinic in healthcare; RCL Foods, Heineken Beverages, and Capevin Holdings in consumer products; OUTsurance Group and Business Partners in financial services; CIVH Group, SEACOM, and Ubiquity Energy in infrastructure; Air Products, Wispeco, and TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa in industrial; Kagiso Tiso Holdings and Pembani Remgro Infrastructure Funds in diversified vehicles; eMedia Investments in media; FirstRand, Momentum Metropolitan, and British American Tobacco in portfolio investments; and entities such as Blue Bulls and Stellenbosch Academy of Sport in social impact areas. Remgro provides strategic support and board representation to its investees without involvement in day-to-day operations, focusing on long-term value creation through dividends, interest, and capital growth. Founded in 1948 with roots tracing back to the 1940s through Rembrandt Group, Remgro is headquartered in Stellenbosch, South Africa, and listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE: REM) with a secondary listing on A2X. Its operations span South Africa primarily, with investee exposure extending to Africa, UAE, UK, Switzerland, and other international markets via companies like Mediclinic and Heineken Beverages. Recent developments include additional capital deployments into Pembani Remgro Infrastructure Fund II (PRIF II) and Asia Partners II during the six months ended 31 December 2024; Rainbow Chicken's listing and unbundling; redemption of preference shares worth R6.87 billion; partial disposal of its FirstRand stake; and ongoing Competition Appeal proceedings for CIVH-Vodacom. In October 2025, PRIF II announced a $20 million investment in Mawingu to expand digital infrastructure in East Africa. As of December 2025, Remgro reached an in-principle agreement with Investment Holding Limited to restructure their holdings in Mediclinic. These moves reflect Remgro's active portfolio management and pursuit of growth opportunities in infrastructure and healthcare.
