AB Short Duration High Yield ETF (NYSE Arca: SYFI) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that invests primarily in global short-duration high-yield bonds and other below-investment-grade fixed-income securities to seek the highest level of current income without assuming undue risk to principal; it maintains a dollar-weighted average portfolio duration of less than four years through bottom-up fundamental research, quantitative analysis, and dynamic sector and credit quality adjustments. The fund combines high-yield exposure with reduced volatility and default risk compared to traditional longer-duration high-yield strategies, targeting shorter-duration bonds across issuers, industries, and economic conditions while leveraging AllianceBernstein's credit expertise to avoid defaults and capitalize on opportunities. It complements core fixed-income portfolios by enhancing yield and diversification, with approximately 553 holdings and monthly distributions.
Launched as an ETF on June 10, 2024, following the conversion of the predecessor AB Short Duration High Yield Portfolio mutual fund (previously named prior to June 7, 2024), SYFI originated from strategies dating back to December 7, 2011, and received the 2025 ETF.com Award for Best New U.S. Fixed-Income ETF for its performance, yield, and innovation. This conversion, part of AllianceBernstein's expansion of its ETF platform to 14 products surpassing $2 billion in assets under management, was supported by Jane Street as lead market maker and reflects AB's strategic shift toward investment-model-friendly active ETF wrappers amid growing demand. The fund operates under AllianceBernstein L.P. (AB), a leading global investment manager headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, serving institutional, individual, and private wealth clients worldwide with $737 billion in assets under management as of April 2024.
