NXG NextGen Infrastructure Income Fund (NYSE: NXG) is a closed-end fund that seeks high total return with an emphasis on current income by investing at least 80% of its net assets, plus borrowings for investment purposes, in equity and debt securities of infrastructure companies; these include energy infrastructure companies such as midstream natural gas gatherers, processors, transporters and storage operators, electricity generators and renewables; industrial infrastructure companies encompassing engineering and construction, toll roads, ports, railroads and waste facilities; sustainable infrastructure firms focused on electric vehicles, hydrogen, solar equipment, yieldcos and renewable financing; and technology and communication infrastructure providers like data centers, cloud services, wireless connectivity, cybersecurity and wireline operators. The fund limits MLP investments to no more than 25% of managed assets and employs leverage, with borrowings representing 27.81% of total assets as of September 30, 2024; it trades at a discount to NAV, offers a high distribution rate of approximately 15.52% based on its recent $0.54 monthly payout, and targets income-oriented investors including those in IRAs and 401(k)s without generating unrelated business taxable income. Launched on September 28, 2012, and managed by NXG Investment Management (doing business as Cushing Asset Management, LP) from Dallas, Texas, with portfolio managers John Musgrave and Todd Sunderland, the fund serves U.S. investors through NYSE trading and emphasizes demand-inelastic, secular growth opportunities in both traditional and next-generation infrastructure vital to the economy. Recent developments include a July 2025 rights offering that generated approximately $63 million in gross proceeds to expand investable assets and capitalize on infrastructure opportunities; a January 2025 distribution agreement with Foreside Fund Services, LLC to offer up to 200,000 common shares; and ongoing monthly distributions declared as of December 2025, with top holdings featuring Vistra Corp., Energy Transfer LP, Kinder Morgan and other energy and infrastructure leaders as of late 2024.
