Business
Saudi Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Appliances Corporation (SPIMACO) manufactures, develops, markets, and sells generic pharmaceuticals and medical appliances in Saudi Arabia and across 16 countries in the MENA region. Founded in 1986 and headquartered in Riyadh, the company operates as a Saudi joint-stock entity with SAR 1.2 billion in paid-up capital, producing high-quality medicines spanning more than 60 therapeutic classes including antibiotics; non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs); treatments for nausea and vomiting; hypertension medications; antifungals; diabetes drugs; asthma therapies; antivirals; peptic ulcer disease remedies; cough and cold preparations; as well as recent expansions into hepatitis, oncology, biosimilars, and high-potent drugs. SPIMACO maintains advanced manufacturing facilities such as the Al-Qassim Pharmaceutical Plant and serves local and export markets through strategic investments in joint-stock and limited liability companies both domestically and internationally. In recent developments, SPIMACO launched a new oncology and high-potent drug plant in July 2025 at a cost of SAR 272 million, capable of producing over 300 million units annually and targeting a market share increase from under 1% to 10% in cancer drugs, with first commercial batches in production; the company plans to register over eight new drugs in 2025 and more than 15 thereafter while expanding into Africa and Europe. SPIMACO secured a SAR 200 million Shariah-compliant loan from Saudi National Bank in September 2025 to fund operations and raw material purchases, reported doubled Q2 2025 net profits to SAR 36 million, and formed key partnerships including a licensing deal with Boston Oncology in October 2025 for local oncology product manufacturing in two phases, alongside prior strategic alliances and acquisitions such as Osmopharm, Dammam Pharmaceutical Company, and collaborations with CanSinoBIO, Sinopharm, RecBio, and Merck Sharp & Dohme International.
