Business
Oil Refineries Ltd Oil Refineries Ltd (ORL.TA), also known as BAZAN Group, operates Israel's largest integrated oil refining and petrochemical complex in Haifa Bay, with a crude oil refining capacity of approximately 9.8 million tons per year and a Nelson complexity index of 9; the company produces a wide range of fuel products including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, fuel oil, liquefied petroleum gas, naphtha, and bitumen; it manufactures polymers such as polyethylene and polypropylene through Carmel Olefins Ltd, aromatic chemicals including benzene, paraxylene, orthoxylene, and toluene through Gadiv Petrochemical Industries Ltd, and basic oils and waxes through Haifa Basic Oils Ltd; additional operations encompass polypropylene production via Ducor in the Netherlands, power and heat services to industrial customers, storage and transportation infrastructure, tanker leasing for marine fuel transport, and trading and shipping activities, primarily serving the Israeli market with exports to the Mediterranean basin. Founded in 1959 and headquartered in Haifa, Israel, the company previously known as Haifa Refineries Ltd traces its origins to a refinery complex established in the 1930s-1940s under British mandate; it operates through segments including Fuels, Polymers, Aromatics, Polymers-Ducor, and Other. Recent developments include repairs and a return to near-full operational capacity following missile strikes on its facilities in June 2025 that caused three worker fatalities and pipeline damage, supported by a temporary planning exemption for rehabilitation; strong Q3 2025 financial results with adjusted consolidated EBITDA of USD 132 million driven by a refining margin of USD 10.7 per barrel and contributions of USD 17 million from the strategic investment in Cantium (USA); an equity buyback program completed in 2024 repurchasing 20.2 million shares for USD 5 million; and the announcement on November 30, 2025, of CEO Malachi Alper's intention to step down, initiating the process for a successor.
