Formerly known as Tri-County Financial Corporation, the company changed its name to The Community Financial Corporation in October 2013 to better reflect its community-focused mission. In a major strategic development, The Community Financial Corporation completed a merger of equals with Shore Bancshares, Inc. Shore Bancshares, Inc. on July 1, 2023, under which each TCFC share converted into 2.3287 shares of Shore Bancshares common stock, with former TCFC shareholders owning approximately 40% of the combined entity and TCFC shares ceasing trading on Nasdaq thereafter; the combined organization now operates as one of Maryland's leading community banks under the Shore United Bank brand, expanding its footprint in Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia while continuing to prioritize personal and business banking, loans, investments, online/mobile banking, and community initiatives.
