- Tallgrass Energy Partners, LP (TEP) is a leading growth-oriented midstream energy infrastructure company that acquires, owns, operates, and develops natural gas transportation, crude oil transportation, and gathering, processing, and terminalling assets across North America. The company operates through three primary segments: natural gas transportation, which includes approximately 4,641 miles of interstate pipelines and integrated storage facilities in Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska; crude oil transportation via systems like the Pony Express pipeline; and gathering, processing, and terminalling, encompassing natural gas gathering and processing facilities that produce natural gas liquids and residue gas, crude oil gathering, storage, and terminalling, as well as NGL transportation and marketing of crude oil and NGLs. In recent years, Tallgrass has expanded into low-carbon and clean energy solutions, including the conversion of its Trailblazer pipeline to CO2 service for carbon capture and storage, a joint venture for sustainable aviation fuel production exceeding 2 billion gallons annually, investment in the Escalante H2 Power hydrogen-to-power project converting a retired coal plant, and waste heat-to-power decarbonization initiatives expected to deliver approximately 10 MW of carbon-free energy starting in 2025. Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Leawood, Kansas, with operational headquarters in Denver, Colorado, and offices in Houston, Texas, Tallgrass manages over 10,000 miles of pipeline assets across 15 states, serving key U.S. hydrocarbon basins in the Rocky Mountains and Midwest while targeting industrial, agricultural, data center, and decarbonization markets. Recent major developments include the August 2024 investment of approximately $843 million by Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments), joining Blackstone Infrastructure Partners and other investors to support growth in traditional energy and decarbonization projects such as CO2 sequestration hubs; the November 2025 opening of the world's largest bioethanol carbon capture facility at ADM's Columbus, Nebraska plant, leveraging the Trailblazer pipeline to store over 10 million tons of CO2 annually; the Ruby Pipeline acquisition to enhance market access and decarbonized solutions; a July 2025 binding open season for a new natural gas pipeline from the Permian Basin to Rockies Express Pipeline connections, enabling affordable gas delivery for growing sectors; and partnerships like the Equinor collaboration for hydrogen and ammonia production. Since going private in 2020 following its delisting from the New York Stock Exchange, Tallgrass, led by President and CEO Matthew P. Sheehy since 2022, has issued $800 million in senior notes due 2029 and pursued strategic financing to fuel expansions in sustainable energy infrastructure.
