State Street SPDR Nuveen ICE Municipal Bond ETF (TFI) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to provide investment results that, before fees and expenses, correspond generally to the price and yield performance of the ICE 1+ Year AMT-Free Broad Municipal Index. The fund invests primarily in U.S. dollar-denominated, investment-grade, tax-exempt municipal bonds publicly issued by U.S. states, territories, cities, counties, districts and their agencies; these include state and local general obligation bonds, revenue bonds, pre-refunded bonds, insured bonds, and municipal lease obligations with maturities of one year or more. The underlying index is market-value weighted and designed to track the performance of long-term, AMT-free U.S. municipal debt, with the ETF maintaining approximately 97.73% exposure to U.S. bonds and 2.16% to cash equivalents. Launched on September 11, 2007, and domiciled in the United States, TFI is issued and managed by State Street Global Advisors (SSGA), a division of State Street Corporation headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, in partnership with Nuveen and index provider ICE Data Indices. TFI targets investors seeking tax-efficient income from municipal securities, operates on the NYSE Arca exchange, and as of the latest data maintains assets under management of approximately $3.20 billion with an expense ratio of 0.23%. In a significant strategic update, the ETF overhauled its benchmark index on June 1, 2025, switching to the new ICE 1+ Year AMT-Free Broad Municipal Index, which removed legacy exclusions to broaden coverage of eligible municipal bonds.
