Business
Tortoise Energy ETF, formerly Tortoise Energy Fund, is a non-diversified, actively managed exchange-traded fund of Tortoise Capital Series Trust that seeks current income and, secondarily, long-term capital appreciation through investment across the energy value chain. Trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker TNGY, the fund invests principally in publicly traded energy and power-infrastructure companies and may allocate between equity securities, fixed-income securities, master limited partnerships and affiliates, restricted securities, and derivatives, including covered-call options. Its investment exposure encompasses upstream oil and natural-gas producers; refining and downstream businesses; midstream pipeline, storage, processing, natural-gas liquids and transportation operators; liquefied natural gas and export-infrastructure providers; power-generation and electrification companies; energy-services providers; and selected nuclear and other energy-related businesses. The strategy emphasizes natural gas, natural-gas liquids, export infrastructure, cash-generative energy assets, fee-based and inflation-linked infrastructure cash flows, and income enhancement through covered calls and energy-related fixed income. The portfolio primarily targets U.S. energy and energy-infrastructure issuers while retaining the ability to invest in non-U.S. issuers. TNGY is structured as a regulated investment company and distributes income to shareholders on Form 1099 rather than a Schedule K-1. TNGY originates from the Tortoise Energy Infrastructure and Income Fund, whose institutional share class was reorganized into Tortoise Capital Series Trust, consolidated with the fund’s other share classes, and converted from a mutual fund into an actively managed ETF on June 16, 2025. The conversion established the TNGY ticker and the Tortoise Energy Fund name. On March 30, 2026, Tortoise Capital renamed the fund Tortoise Energy ETF as part of a broader modernization of its ETF naming convention; the renaming did not alter the fund’s ticker, investment strategy, or portfolio management. Tortoise Capital Advisors, L.L.C., an SEC-registered investment adviser headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, serves as investment adviser to the fund. The adviser’s energy and infrastructure investment platform dates back more than 20 years and focuses on publicly traded companies operating from energy production through transportation and distribution.
