Business
Triton International Limited is the world's largest lessor of intermodal freight equipment, specializing in the acquisition, leasing, re-leasing, and sale of intermodal shipping containers and related equipment, including dry containers, refrigerated containers, open tops, flat racks, generator sets, and chassis. The company operates a fleet of over 7 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and serves major shipping lines and global supply chains through a network of more than 400 third-party depot facilities spread across 46 countries with 21 global offices. Triton's services are designed to provide flexible, customized leasing solutions supported by extensive commercial, operational, and technical capabilities. Founded in 1981 and headquartered in Hamilton, Bermuda, Triton International has maintained market leadership for over 60 years, supporting global trade and economic growth by ensuring the safe and efficient transport of goods worldwide. The company targets shipping lines, logistics providers, and freight operators as its primary customers, operating extensively in North America, Europe, Asia, and other key global trading regions. Recent major developments include the strategic acquisition of Global Container International (GCI) in mid-2025, which expanded Triton's container fleet by approximately 500,000 TEUs and enhanced its global service capabilities. Additionally, Triton established a long-term strategic partnership with Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing Company (SMFL), where SMFL acquired a minority stake in one of Triton's leased container portfolios, with options for future investments. These moves underscore Triton's strategy to secure significant fleet growth, diversify its equity base, and strengthen its position in the container leasing industry while maintaining high-quality customer service standards. Triton International continues to focus on fleet growth, operational efficiency, and maintaining near 98% fleet utilization rates, supported by a high proportion of multi-year and lifecycle leases that provide stable and predictable revenue streams. The company's strong industry presence, expansive product offerings, and recent strategic initiatives position it as a critical enabler of global logistics and intermodal freight transportation.
