Business
Toyo Gosei Co., Ltd. manufactures and markets photosensitive materials and chemical products primarily for semiconductors, displays, and energy applications. Founded in 1954 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, the company operates through two main segments: photosensitive materials, which include negative-type photosensitive materials such as bis azide compounds (e.g., BAC-M) used as cross-linking agents for photo-curing resins in color filters and semiconductor integrated circuits; positive photosensitive materials like naphthoquinone diazide compounds (e.g., NT type, TPPA type) and chemically amplified photoacid generators (e.g., TPS-TF, TPS-CS, TPS-PFBS, DTBPI-PFBS) for microfabrication of semiconductor integrated circuits, liquid crystal displays, and plasma displays; acrylic polymers for resists; and electrolytes and ionic liquids for electric double-layer capacitors, lithium-ion secondary batteries, and other energy storage devices; and the chemical products segment, encompassing high-purity solvents for semiconductors, flavor and fragrance materials, green chemicals for recycling and purification of waste solvents, and logistics services including chemical storage and transportation at facilities like the Takahama chemical tank terminal. The company maintains production plants in Chiba, Ichikawa, Awaji, and other locations in Japan, with representative offices in Shanghai, China, and a logistics base in Rotterdam, Netherlands, serving global markets focused on electronics, energy, and industrial chemicals. Recent developments include the completion in fiscal year 2024 (ended March 31, 2025) of major capital investments totaling ¥8.61 billion under the "Beyond 500" mid-term plan, such as the Photosensitive Materials R&D/QC Center (May 2024, ¥3 billion investment to strengthen manufacturing technologies), Phase II expansion of the No. 4 Photosensitive Materials Plant at Chiba (September 2024, part of ¥12 billion total to expand ArF and EUV materials capacity 1.8 times versus FY2021), Awaji Plant's No. 2 indoor filling station (March 2024, tripling high-purity solvent shipment capacity), and Flavor and Fragrance Plant's Administration and Analysis Building (August 2023); approval on November 29, 2024, for METI economic security funding (up to ¥7 billion grant) toward 2027-2029 expansions at Chiba, Ichikawa, and Awaji plants to boost photosensitive materials, polymers, and high-purity solvents capacity 1.4 times over FY2024 levels; and record FY2024 net sales of ¥38,665 million (up 21% YoY) driven by cutting-edge semiconductor materials demand amid generative AI growth, with FY2025 forecasts at ¥41,500 million sales and plans for ¥4.87 billion capex focused on facility enhancements.
