- Uber Technologies, Inc. is a global technology platform that develops and operates digital applications for mobility, delivery and freight services. Founded in 2009 and headquartered in San Francisco, California, the company serves consumers, drivers, merchants, couriers, shippers and carriers across more than 70 countries and over 15,000 cities worldwide, with operations principally in North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. Its core offerings include ride-hailing and other mobility services such as carshare, micromobility, rentals, public transit and taxis; delivery services through Uber Eats for restaurant meals, groceries, alcohol, convenience and retail orders, plus Uber Direct white-label delivery-as-a-service and advertising; and Freight, a digital marketplace and logistics platform that connects shippers and carriers and provides shipment booking, pricing, transportation management and end-to-end logistics automation. Uber also offers Uber One, a cross-platform membership program; marketplace advertising products; and financial partnerships products integrated into its mobility business. The company was formerly known as Ubercab, Inc. and changed its name to Uber Technologies, Inc. in February 2011.
Uber’s recent strategic actions include a July 2026 agreement to acquire Delivery Hero through a voluntary takeover offer, which it says would extend its combined mobility and delivery platform to 99 markets and broaden cross-platform delivery and mobility scale. The transaction is expected to deepen Uber’s presence in local delivery and quick commerce markets and to nearly double the number of markets where it offers both mobility and delivery services, while Uber has also committed to invest €2 billion in Germany over five years and retain Delivery Hero’s headquarters in Berlin through at least 2029. In parallel, Uber has continued to expand autonomous and advanced delivery initiatives through partnerships and investments in robotaxis, drone delivery and other next-generation transport offerings, supporting its broader push beyond core ride-hailing and food delivery.
