Business
Union Electric Company, operating as Ameren Missouri, serves as a regulated utility providing comprehensive electric generation, transmission, and distribution services, alongside natural gas distribution, throughout central and eastern Missouri. Established in 1902, the company delivers energy to approximately 1.3 million electric customers and 135,000 natural gas customers across a 24,000 square-mile service area, which encompasses the greater St. Louis region and numerous communities. Its diverse energy mix includes coal, nuclear, hydroelectric, and natural gas, with a significant and growing emphasis on renewable sources like wind and solar power. Ameren Missouri is actively investing in its energy infrastructure, with recent additions including 500 megawatts of new solar generation brought online in late 2024, and the planned 800-megawatt Castle Bluff natural gas energy center slated for 2027, all aimed at enhancing grid reliability and supporting a balanced energy future. As a key subsidiary of Ameren Corporation, it is focused on achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2045, supported by substantial ongoing investments in modernizing its system and expanding its clean energy portfolio, while striving to provide affordable and dependable service to its wide array of residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
