Business
Saigon Port Joint Stock Company is a Vietnam-based maritime logistics enterprise that provides seaport terminal operations, cargo handling, warehousing, and comprehensive marine auxiliary services. Operating as a subsidiary of the state-owned Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC), the company functions as a primary maritime gateway for international trade and domestic commerce across the Southern Key Economic Zone of Vietnam, with key operational facilities situated in Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding waterway corridors. Founded in 1862 and headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, the company serves global ocean carriers, coastal shipping operators, industrial manufacturers, commodities traders, and international freight forwarders. The company organizes its activities into three core business divisions: Port and Terminal Operations, Logistics and Warehousing, and Maritime Auxiliary Services. Its commercial offerings include port stevedoring and terminal handling for containerized cargo, dry bulk commodities including fertilizers, cement, and agricultural products, and breakbulk materials such as structural steel and project equipment; vessel berthing, mooring, and anchorage management; container yard (CY) management, container freight station (CFS) consolidation, and empty container storage; bonded warehousing, temperature-controlled facilities, general covered storage, and open-air yard leasing; inland waterway barging, road freight forwarding, multimodal transport coordination, and customs brokerage support; maritime tugboat towage, vessel escort, and pilotage assistance; ship supplies, fresh water bunkering, and marine mechanical maintenance and repair; and maritime workforce staffing and technical stevedoring training. Additionally, the company maintains strategic equity participations in major deep-water container terminal joint ventures within the Cai Mep-Thi Vai port complex, including SP-SSA International Terminal (SSIT) and Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT). In recent operational and strategic developments, Saigon Port Joint Stock Company has engaged in large-scale infrastructure expansion through a multi-billion-dollar consortium comprising parent company Vietnam Maritime Corporation and Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), the terminal operating arm of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), to develop the Can Gio International Transshipment Port project. The strategic initiative is engineered to establish a mega-scale transshipment gateway in southern Vietnam capable of accommodating ultra-large container vessels and competing with regional maritime transshipment hubs. In parallel, the company established a comprehensive logistics and seaport cooperation framework with MSC Vietnam and logistics provider MEDLOG to integrate terminal handling with end-to-end global supply chain services. Concurrently, Saigon Port continues the strategic rationalization and modernization of its urban riverfront facilities, gradually transitioning historic urban terminal sites such as Nha Rong-Khanh Hoi toward waterfront urban development while shifting primary cargo handling operations toward downstream deep-water port systems.
