Business
VinaCapital Vietnam Opportunity Fund Limited (VOF) is a British closed-end investment trust listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE: VOF; OTC: VCVOF) that invests in growth equity opportunities across listed equities, private equity, state-owned enterprise assets, real estate, and debt instruments in Vietnam or companies deriving at least 75% of their assets, operations, revenues or income from Vietnam. The fund, managed by VinaCapital Investment Management Ltd., targets scalable companies with strong brands, distribution networks, and management teams in sectors including financials, real estate, materials, supply chain, industrials, consumer goods, and those benefiting from domestic consumption growth; it employs a private equity approach with concentrated high-conviction positions, negotiating due diligence rights, performance commitments, downside protections, IPO commitments, drag-along and tag-along rights, and put-call options to enhance liquidity and exit premiums. Incorporated in Guernsey in 2003 with headquarters registered in Saint Peter Port and primary operations in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, VOF focuses exclusively on the Vietnamese market to deliver medium- to long-term capital returns for international investors. In recent developments, the fund increased its revolving credit facility with Standard Chartered Bank to USD60 million in April 2025, extending the maturity to May 2027 to support liquidity for private equity investments and realizations; it also executed an asset swap with NovaGroup, resulting in a significant valuation write-up, while writing down its stake in IN Holdings due to post-COVID challenges in conference and wedding venues. VOF sold its stake in Tam Tri Medical over the past six years after supporting acquisitions of three facilities, marking a key realization from its private equity portfolio. For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2025, NAV per share declined 4% to USD7.13 with a -2.2% total return amid market pressures, though early subsequent performance showed improvement with NAV up 12.4%; the fund maintains a dividend policy targeting approximately 1% of NAV semi-annually and conducts share buybacks when deemed beneficial to shareholders.
