Business
Viaplay Group AB (publ) (VPLAY-A.ST) operates as a Sweden-based entertainment company focused on streaming, broadcasting, and content production primarily in the Nordic region and select international markets. Founded in 2018 as a spinoff from Modern Times Group and headquartered in Stockholm, the company offers its flagship Viaplay video streaming service featuring premium live sports such as Formula 1, Premier League, UEFA Champions League, NHL, and ice hockey; original series and films including Wisting and Paradise Hotel; documentaries; and third-party content across the Nordics, Netherlands, and via Viaplay Select on global partner platforms; advertising-supported free-TV channels like TV3, TV6, and Viaplay TV; pay-TV channels under the V Sports, V Series, and V Film brands distributed through a controlling interest in Allente satellite and broadband platforms; commercial radio networks including Rix FM and Star FM in Sweden and P4 Group stations in Norway; and content production via Viaplay Studios for scripted and unscripted programming. The company generates revenue from direct-to-consumer subscriptions, pay-per-view purchases, linear TV and radio advertising, B2B partnerships, sublicensing deals such as Premier League rights with Amazon Prime Video in the Netherlands, and other content sales, targeting households and sports enthusiasts primarily in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands, and through branded content worldwide. In July 2025, Viaplay Group announced an agreement to acquire Telenor's remaining 50% stake in Allente Group, subject to regulatory approvals, to fully consolidate the Nordic pay-TV distributor formed in 2020 and enhance cross-platform offerings; revised its full-year 2025 financial guidance to pro forma core net sales of SEK 21.0-22.0 billion, core EBITDA of SEK 0.8-1.1 billion, and adjusted operating free cash flow of SEK 0.5-0.75 billion while targeting double-digit EBITDA margins by 2028; launched Viaplay Sports linear channel in Sweden and Viaplay TV+ premium channel in the Netherlands; appointed Jonas Karlén as EVP and CEO of Viaplay Group Sweden in late 2025; and completed wind-down of non-core direct-to-consumer operations in Poland to focus on high-return markets following prior recapitalization efforts including Canal+ and PPF stake increases to 29% in 2024.
