Business
YPF Sociedad Anónima operates as an integrated energy company engaged in upstream and downstream oil and gas activities throughout Argentina; its core segments encompass exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas, refining and petrochemical manufacturing, transportation and distribution of refined products, commercialization of fuels, petrochemicals and specialties, gas and power operations including electricity generation, and lubricants production. The company produces gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, aviation gasoline, greases, and petrochemicals such as ethylene and propylene at facilities including La Plata, Luján de Cuyo, and Plaza Huincul complexes; it maintains an extensive network of pipelines, refineries, service stations, and thermal power plants primarily serving automotive, transportation, agricultural, industrial, aviation, and national grid customers. Founded in 1922 and headquartered in Buenos Aires, Argentina, YPF focuses on developing Vaca Muerta shale resources for conventional and unconventional hydrocarbons while expanding into renewable energy and international exploration. In recent developments, YPF advances the Argentina LNG project with partners including a final investment decision on a 2.45 MTPA floating LNG vessel slated for 2027 operations, potential approval for a second 3.5 MTPA vessel by mid-2025, and a memorandum of understanding with Eni for a third LNG initiative targeting up to 30 MTPA total capacity; it leads financing for a $3 billion oil export pipeline and terminal with 27% shipper commitment. In November 2025, YPF sold a 50% interest and operatorship in Uruguay's offshore Block OFF-5 exploration area to Eni, strengthening their collaboration on ARGLNG and offshore prospects; the company also received a binding offer from Adecoagro in December 2025 to acquire its 50% stake in Profertil fertilizer joint venture, pending board approval. Under CEO Horacio Marín since late 2023, YPF pursues production growth to 470,000 b/d shale oil by 2030, ramps drilling rigs from 12 to 40 by 2031, and benefits from prospective U.S. financial assistance to lower borrowing costs for Vaca Muerta exports.
