- Grayscale Zcash Trust (ZCSH) provides investors with exposure to Zcash (ZEC), a privacy-focused cryptocurrency that utilizes zk-SNARKs zero-knowledge proofs for shielded transactions; the trust holds ZEC directly and issues shares traded over-the-counter under the ticker ZCSH, offering a convenient vehicle for accredited investors seeking digital asset allocation without direct custody or exchange management. Headquartered in New York and sponsored by Grayscale Investments, LLC—a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group, Inc.—the trust was launched in 2021 as part of Grayscale's suite of single-asset investment products, which also includes trusts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies. It operates primarily in the United States, targeting institutional and high-net-worth investors interested in privacy-preserving blockchain technologies. The trust's core services encompass secure ZEC storage through qualified custodians, periodic net asset value calculations based on the CoinDesk Zcash Price Index (ZECI), daily share creations and redemptions subject to sponsor discretion, and detailed reporting via SEC filings and the Grayscale investor platform. Grayscale maintains operational infrastructure including compliance with U.S. securities regulations, risk management protocols, and fee structures featuring a 2.00% annual sponsor fee deducted from assets under management. In recent developments, Grayscale Investments proposed a conversion of the Zcash Trust to a spot ETF in early 2024, aligning with broader regulatory shifts following Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF approvals; while awaiting SEC decision as of late 2025, this initiative reflects strategic expansion into exchange-traded products for enhanced liquidity and retail access. The firm also integrated Zcash Trust into its suite amid a 2024 reorganization of crypto trust offerings, including fee waivers to attract inflows during market volatility; additionally, Grayscale announced partnerships with crypto custodians for improved security and launched dynamic fee-sharing mechanisms for select trusts in mid-2025 to boost competitiveness. These changes underscore Grayscale's focus on product evolution within the maturing digital asset investment landscape.
