Business
Broadcom Inc. designs, develops and supplies semiconductor and infrastructure software solutions worldwide. The company offers a broad portfolio of products including custom and standard semiconductors such as systems-on-a-chip integrated circuits; Ethernet switching and routing silicon solutions including Tomahawk, Jericho and Trident families; optical and copper physical layer devices; wireless infrastructure including RF front ends and filters; connectivity devices including PCIe and CXL switches; storage adapters and controllers; broadband access including PON, DSL and cable; set-top box system-on-a-chip solutions; and cybersecurity software; as well as enterprise infrastructure software encompassing mainframe software, cybersecurity solutions and private cloud platforms including VMware Cloud Foundation. Broadcom serves cloud computing and data centers, networking, software, broadband, wireless, storage and industrial markets with customers including major hyperscalers, telecom operators, enterprise IT organizations and consumer electronics makers. Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, the company traces its roots to Hewlett-Packard's semiconductor operations dating back more than 60 years and assumed its current form following Avago Technologies' acquisition of Broadcom Corporation in 2016. Broadcom recently completed its $69 billion acquisition of VMware in November 2023, significantly expanding its software portfolio and driving substantial revenue growth in infrastructure software; sold its end-user computing division to KKR for $4 billion in February 2024 to streamline focus on core infrastructure and virtualization; launched VMware Cloud Foundation 9.0 in 2025 to modernize private cloud deployments; expanded strategic partnerships with ING in December 2025 for private cloud overhaul and with NEC Corporation in November 2025 to accelerate VMware adoption for container and AI workloads; and shipped Tomahawk 6, the world's first 102.4 Tbps Ethernet switch series. These moves underscore Broadcom's strategic shift toward high-margin software and AI-driven networking solutions amid robust demand from data centers and cloud providers. The company operates globally with key facilities in North America, Asia-Pacific and Europe, employing over 20,000 people.
