- A2A S.p.A. is an Italian multi-utility company focused on the energy transition and circular economy, generating, distributing and marketing renewable energy, electricity and gas; providing integrated water cycle management, district heating, waste collection, treatment, disposal and recovery; and offering public lighting, smart city services, energy efficiency solutions and electric mobility infrastructure. The company operates a diverse generation portfolio including 6.7 GW of thermoelectric capacity, 1.9 GW hydroelectric, 0.6 GW solar and wind, and synchronous compensators; supplies electricity and gas to over 1.9 million and 1.6 million customers respectively; manages electricity and gas distribution networks with a regulated asset base of EUR 3.1 billion; and serves residential, SME and large industrial clients primarily in northern Italy across provinces such as Milan, Brescia and Bergamo, with additional presence in other regions and energy facilities in Greece. Founded in 2008 through the merger of municipal utilities from Milan and Brescia and headquartered in Milan with registered offices in Brescia, A2A maintains nationwide operations in waste-to-energy plants, water services, biogas production and district heating networks in cities including Milan, Brescia and Bergamo. In recent developments, A2A completed the acquisition of a 90% stake in Duereti S.r.l. from Enel's e-distribuzione in December 2024 for approximately EUR 1.2 billion, adding 800,000 electricity points of delivery and 17,000 km of network in the Milan and Brescia provinces to boost its regulated activities and RAB to EUR 3.4 billion by 2035; sold gas distribution concessions in Lombardy to Ascopiave S.p.A. with closing in July 2025 to refocus on electricity infrastructure; issued its first EUR 750 million subordinated perpetual green hybrid bond and a EUR 600 million green term loan in 2024 to fund the Enel acquisition and maintain a BBB credit rating; and updated its 2024-2035 Strategic Plan in November 2025 to EUR 23 billion in total investments, including EUR 16 billion for energy transition with targets of 5.7 GW renewables, 5 million customers and data center opportunities in Lombardy, plus EUR 7 billion for circular economy expansion into European markets.
