Business
Federal Agricultural Mortgage Corporation (Farmer Mac; NYSE: AGM, AGM-A) provides a secondary market for a broad range of agricultural real estate loans, rural housing mortgages and rural infrastructure financing in the United States. The company operates through seven principal segments: Farm & Ranch, which purchases and guarantees loans secured by first liens on agricultural real estate and rural single-family housing, including USDA-guaranteed securities; Corporate AgFinance, which finances larger farming operations, agribusinesses and food processing supply chains through loans and AgVantage securities; Power & Utilities, which supports rural electric generation, transmission and distribution cooperatives; Broadband Infrastructure, which finances telecommunications facilities for rural cooperatives; Renewable Energy, which provides loans for renewable energy projects; Funding, which manages debt issuance; and Investments, which holds investment securities. Farmer Mac guarantees principal and interest payments on securities backed by pools of eligible loans; issues long-term standby purchase commitments; services loans; and securitizes agricultural mortgages into agricultural mortgage-backed securities (AMBS), such as the FARM series. Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Washington, DC, the stockholder-owned, federally chartered corporation primarily serves lenders, cooperatives and institutional investors across the U.S., with total outstanding business volume reaching approximately $38 billion as of late 2024. Recent developments include the completion of a $313.5 million AMBS securitization (FARM series) in December 2025 comprising 343 agricultural mortgage loans, featuring a $290 million Farmer Mac-guaranteed senior tranche, marking its seventh such transaction and demonstrating strong institutional investor demand; a prior $318.8 million AMBS securitization in November 2024 with 446 loans; the announcement of a new agricultural asset product for launch in 2026 to address rising demand; pricing of $100 million Series H preferred stock; declaration of dividends on Series H preferred stock; leadership changes with CEO Bradford T. Nordholm's retirement, President and COO Zachary N. Carpenter assuming CEO role, and Geraldine Hayhurst appointed as Chief Legal Officer; and robust third-quarter 2025 financial results reflecting growth in net interest income and business volume amid macroeconomic volatility.
