Founded in 1988 and headquartered at 2100 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C., the company operates through seven segments: Farm & Ranch, Corporate AgFinance, Power & Utilities, Broadband Infrastructure, Renewable Energy, Funding, and Investments; it serves agricultural lenders, agribusinesses, rural electric cooperatives, and infrastructure financiers nationwide by purchasing eligible loans and participations secured by first-lien mortgages on agricultural real estate, rural housing, production agriculture assets, and infrastructure projects. Farmer Mac's core products and services include Farm & Ranch Loan Purchases for long-term fixed-rate loans up to 30 years; Farm & Ranch Credit Protection via Purchase Commitments and Agricultural Mortgage-Backed Securities (AMBS) that guarantee timely interest and ultimate principal payments; USDA Guaranteed Loan Purchases covering Farm Service Agency (FSA) Farm Ownership, FSA Term Operating, Rural Development Water & Environmental Programs, Business & Industry, and Community Facility loans; Wholesale Financing through AgVantage facilities for lenders pledging eligible collateral and Farm Equity AgVantage for agribusiness funds and operators; and custom solutions for capital, liquidity, and risk management tailored to rural borrowers and institutions. In recent developments, Farmer Mac completed its fifth FARM series AMBS securitization (FARM 2024-2) in November 2024 totaling $318.8 million across 446 agricultural mortgage loans with a $294.9 million senior tranche; closed a sixth farm securitization in June 2025 amid volatile markets; acquired $35.6 million in renewable energy investment tax credits boosting core earnings; relocated to a new sustainable headquarters in Washington, D.C. in August 2024; announced CEO Bradford T. Nordholm's retirement with Zachary N. Carpenter succeeding as President, COO, and future CEO; appointed Geraldine Hayhurst as Chief Legal Officer; experienced CFO departure; priced and declared dividends on $100 million Series H Preferred Stock; and reported third-quarter 2025 outstanding business volume of $31.1 billion.
