Business
Alliance Resource Partners, L.P. stands as a diversified natural resource enterprise, primarily engaged in the production and distribution of coal to utility and industrial sectors throughout the United States and internationally. The company’s operations are segmented across Illinois Basin Coal Operations, Appalachia Coal Operations, Oil & Gas Royalties, and Coal Royalties. It provides a comprehensive range of thermal and metallurgical coal products, distinguished by varying sulfur and heat content, to meet diverse customer specifications. Alliance Resource Partners manages seven underground mining complexes situated across Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Beyond its mining activities, the firm owns and operates a coal loading terminal located on the Ohio River at Mount Vernon, Indiana, and actively participates in the buying and reselling of coal. Furthermore, it maintains a significant portfolio of mineral and royalty interests in approximately 1.5 million gross acres within key oil and gas producing regions, predominantly in the Permian, Anadarko, and Williston Basins, with a growing presence in the Delaware Basin. The company has also expanded into offering advanced mining technology solutions, encompassing data networking, communication and tracking systems, proximity detection, industrial collision avoidance platforms, and data analytics software. In a strategic move towards energy diversification, Alliance Resource Partners has ventured into other growth investments, including a small investment in data center infrastructure and Bitcoin mining utilizing surplus electricity from its coal facilities. As of late 2023, the company reported substantial coal mineral reserves, consistently being a leading producer in the Eastern U.S. Established in 1971, with the Master Limited Partnership formed in 1999, the company is headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
