Business
Group 6 Metals Limited (ASX:G6M) is an Australia-based resource exploration, development and production company focused on tungsten mining. The company produces high-grade tungsten concentrate from its 100%-owned Dolphin Tungsten Mine on King Island, Tasmania; it holds the highest-grade tungsten deposit of significant size in the western world with a JORC-compliant mineral reserve of 4.43 million tonnes grading 0.92% WO3; operations include a processing plant with annual capacity of 400,000 tonnes of ore feed; and it pursues expansion through the nearby Bold Head satellite deposit, which features a maiden mineral resource estimate of 450,000 tonnes at 0.9% WO3, extending the overall probable reserve to 4.87 million tonnes at 0.9% WO3. Founded in 1966 and headquartered in Brisbane, Queensland, with primary operations in Tasmania, the company targets critical mineral markets for applications in steel hardening, aeronautics, armaments, semiconductors and high technology. Formerly King Island Scheelite Limited, it changed its name in November 2021; commercial production commenced in July 2023 following redevelopment of the historic mine closed since 1992; in late 2024, it entered a transformation phase with a recapitalization plan converting AU$67.2 million of debt into shares, securing AU$23.75 million in new funding from senior lenders and issuing up to 1.7 billion shares for $5.94 million; the plan received shareholder approval in April 2025 with additional $5.9 million equity from lenders including Abex Limited and Elphinstone Holdings; the Tasmanian government converted a AU$10 million loan to equity in early 2025 and provided a further AU$7.5 million loan in May 2025 to support ongoing operations and job security; and in 2025, it relocated headquarters to the Dolphin mine site while achieving record tungsten production amid strategic creditor agreements.
