- Athira Pharma, Inc. (ATHA) is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing small molecule therapies that modulate the neurotrophic hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) system to restore neuronal health, promote neuroprotection, and slow neurodegeneration in diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease dementia (PDD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS); its lead pipeline candidates include ATH-1105, an oral small molecule in Phase 1 clinical trials for ALS with dosing of patients expected in 2025 and preclinical data demonstrating improvements in motor function, nerve function, and biomarkers of neurodegeneration and inflammation, fosgonimeton, a subcutaneously administered small molecule previously evaluated in the Phase 2/3 LIFT-AD trial for mild-to-moderate AD (topline results announced August 2024), the Phase 2 ACT-AD exploratory trial for AD, and the Phase 2 SHAPE trial for PDD and DLB, ATH-1020, an oral small molecule that completed Phase 1 trials with a favorable safety profile and preclinical efficacy in diabetic neuropathy pain models, and several preclinical compounds targeting neurodegenerative indications. Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Bothell, Washington, the company operates primarily in the United States with global clinical trial sites and targets patients with neurodegenerative disorders through its proprietary drug discovery platform. Recent strategic developments include a September 2024 decision to prioritize ATH-1105 advancement following LIFT-AD topline results and completion of its first Phase 1 cohort in May 2024, a 10-for-1 reverse stock split in September 2025 to meet Nasdaq listing requirements, ongoing exploration of strategic alternatives such as partnerships, mergers, or acquisitions advised by Cantor Fitzgerald & Co., presentation of preclinical data on ATH-1105 neuroprotective effects at the 2024 Motor Neurone Disease Association Symposium and fosgonimeton mechanisms at the 2024 Alzheimer's Association International Conference, and cash reserves of $51.3 million as of December 31, 2024, expected to fund operations for at least the next 12 months amid plans for additional financing.
