Business
Auckland International Airport Limited owns and operates New Zealand's largest and busiest airport, Auckland Airport, providing airport facilities, supporting infrastructure, and aeronautical services primarily through three segments: Aeronautical, offering services that facilitate aircraft, passenger, and cargo movement, utility support, and terminal leasing; Retail and Carparking, delivering terminal-based retail concessions and parking facilities for passengers, visitors, and staff; and Property, leasing airport land for cargo buildings, hangars, and investment properties including logistics facilities, offices, hotels, and the Mānawa Bay outlet mall. The company, founded in 1966 and headquartered at 4 Leonard Isitt Drive in Manukau, Auckland, handles over 18.7 million passengers annually as of December 2024, representing about 75% of New Zealand's international arrivals and departures, while also holding a 25% stake in Queenstown Airport. Geographically focused on Auckland as New Zealand's primary international gateway, it serves domestic and international airlines across Australasia and global routes with 65 gates, including 23 jetbridges, international and domestic terminals connected by shuttle and walkway, and a 500,000 square meter surrounding property portfolio. Recent developments include a NZ$1.4 billion equity raise in September 2024 comprising NZ$1.2 billion institutional placement and NZ$200 million retail offer to fund a NZ$6.6 billion multi-year infrastructure program for airfield, runway resiliency upgrades, and enhanced international-domestic connectivity; a NZ$800 million contract awarded to Hawkins Construction for a NZ$2.2 billion domestic terminal upgrade set for completion by 2029; and accelerated investments in terminal integration, ground transport hub, and passenger experience enhancements amid post-pandemic recovery.
