Business
International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (IAG) operates as a multinational holding company for passenger airlines, primarily through its principal brands British Airways, Iberia, Vueling, Aer Lingus, and LEVEL, providing scheduled passenger air transportation services; cargo services; maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities; and holiday package offerings including flights, hotels, and car rentals. The company offers economy, premium economy, business, and first-class seating options across short-haul and long-haul routes, with a fleet comprising narrow-body and wide-body aircraft such as Airbus A320 family, Boeing 787 Dreamliner, and Airbus A350 models. IAG serves leisure and business travelers, targeting markets in Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East from its operational bases. Founded in 2011 through the merger of British Airways plc and International Airlines Group S.A., headquartered in Madrid, Spain, IAG maintains major hubs at London Heathrow (United Kingdom), Madrid-Barajas (Spain), Barcelona-El Prat (Spain), and Dublin (Ireland), with additional presence across approximately 100 destinations worldwide. The group operates in the airline industry, segmented into network carrier operations (long-haul focus via British Airways and Iberia), low-cost short-haul services (Vueling and LEVEL), and regional full-service flights (Aer Lingus). Subsidiaries include British Airways Plc, Iberia Express S.A., Vueling Airlines S.A., Aer Lingus Group Plc, and IAG Cargo, with no parent company. In recent developments, IAG completed the acquisition of Air Europa in late 2024, strengthening its position in the Spanish market and expanding long-haul connectivity to Latin America; launched new sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) initiatives and fleet modernization programs with orders for up to 50 Airbus A321XLR aircraft announced in 2025; and formed strategic partnerships with Qatar Airways for enhanced codeshare agreements and joint ventures on transatlantic routes. The company reported robust passenger traffic recovery in 2025, driven by premium cabin demand, alongside operational expansions including increased frequencies to key U.S. and Asian destinations. These changes reflect IAG's focus on growth, sustainability, and network optimization amid post-pandemic industry dynamics.
