Business
Salmones Camanchaca S.A. is a Chilean seafood company primarily engaged in the farming, processing, and marketing of salmonids, specifically Atlantic and Coho salmon. The company operates a vertically integrated business model encompassing genetics and breeding of eggs; production of smolts in freshwater facilities; cultivation and fattening in sea concessions; and primary and value-added processing plants. Its product portfolio includes whole fish, fillets, portions, and byproducts such as bits, harasu, and scrape meat. Salmones Camanchaca also participates in the cultivation of rainbow trout through associations. The company serves global markets with commercial offices in Mexico, the United States, Europe, China, and Japan and operates across the Chilean regions VIII to XI. Founded over 30 years ago and headquartered in Puerto Montt, Chile, it is a subsidiary of the Camanchaca S.A. group. In recent years, Salmones Camanchaca has undertaken significant operational restructuring to optimize its core business areas, including pelagic fishing, crustacean fishing, salmon farming, and mussel farming, by placing these in specialized companies under the Camanchaca group. In 2024, the company applied to delist its Norwegian depositary receipts from the Oslo Børs and reported a substantial increase in salmon harvest volumes along with improved profitability despite price pressures. The company has committed to sustainability initiatives, including a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2025, reducing antibiotic use by 50%, and certifying the majority of its production by ASC standards. It achieved a notable jump in revenue in 2024, driven by higher salmon harvest volumes and operational efficiencies, with ongoing strategic emphasis on sustainable practices and supply chain optimization. Salmones Camanchaca’s products are sold internationally, leveraging a comprehensive value chain from genetics to processed seafood products. The company reported a 13% year-over-year EBITDA increase in the first half of 2025 to $80.6 million despite a 5% decline in revenue, reflecting a focus on cost reduction and operational efficiencies amid changing market dynamics and regulatory pressures. The business faces evolving industry challenges, including quota reductions and a prohibition on industrial fishing within the first five miles of Chilean coastal waters, prompting adjustments in its fishing operations. Salmones Camanchaca continues to emphasize product quality, environmental responsibility, and global market expansion within the salmon farming industry.
