Business
Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) manufactures and distributes a broad range of medical technologies, devices, laboratory equipment, and diagnostic products to healthcare providers, physicians, life science researchers, clinical laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, and governments worldwide. The company operates through three primary segments: BD Medical, which provides medication delivery solutions including peripheral intravenous and advanced peripheral catheters, hypodermic syringes and needles, prefilled syringes, needle-free IV connectors, closed-system drug transfer devices, infusion pumps such as the BD Alaris system, and medication management solutions like the BD Pyxis automated dispensing cabinets; BD Life Sciences, which offers preanalytical systems for specimen collection and management such as BD Vacutainer tubes, flow cytometry instruments and reagents for immunology research, multiomics tools, microbiology and molecular diagnostics, lab automation, and informatics solutions; and BD Interventional, which delivers vascular access products including venous stents and atherectomy devices, urology and critical care solutions such as PureWick urine management systems and CentraVena central catheters, surgical instruments, infection prevention products, hernia repair meshes, and biosurgery grafts. BD maintains manufacturing and distribution facilities across more than 50 countries, including the United States, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and others, with approximately 70,000 employees supporting global operations. Founded in 1897 and headquartered in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, BD advances clinical therapy and processes through ongoing innovation. Recent developments include the July 2025 agreement to combine its Biosciences and Diagnostic Solutions business with Waters Corporation in a $17.5 billion Reverse Morris Trust transaction, expected to close in late 2026, enabling BD to sharpen focus on medical technology while receiving about $4 billion in cash for share repurchases and debt reduction; the October 2025 launch of the AI-enabled BD Incada Connected Care Platform integrated with the next-generation BD Pyxis Pro dispensing solution for enterprise-wide medication data analytics; the September 2025 pharmacy automation partnership with Henry Ford Health utilizing BD Rowa Vmax for robotic prescription handling; FDA clearance and planned launch of the CentraVena rapid insertion central catheter entering the $500 million market; introduction of the PureWick Portable Collection System for mobile urine management; and expanded U.S. manufacturing investments in syringes, needles, and IV catheters announced in January 2025.
