Business
Birkenstock Holding plc is a holding company that, through its subsidiaries including Birkenstock Group B.V. & Co. KG, designs, manufactures and markets footbed-based footwear products featuring anatomically shaped cork-latex footbeds; sandals, closed-toe shoes, clogs and other silhouettes; sleep systems; natural skincare and body care products; and accessories. The company produces all footbeds at its vertically integrated facilities in Germany, with over 95% of products assembled at company-owned sites across Rhineland-Palatinate, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania; it distributes through owned retail stores, e-commerce platforms and a global business-to-business wholesale network serving retailers worldwide. Birkenstock Holding plc, founded in 1774 and headquartered in London, United Kingdom, as a Jersey-incorporated public limited company, operates as a subsidiary of BK LC Lux MidCo S.à r.l. and serves consumer markets across the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa, with sales offices in over 15 countries including the United States, Canada, Brazil, Japan, the United Kingdom and India. In recent developments, Birkenstock Holding plc signed a definitive agreement in October 2025 to acquire its long-standing Australian distributor, Birkenstock Australia Pty. Ltd., through subsidiary Birkenstock International Asia GmbH, with the transaction expected to close by month-end to support market expansion and continuity under retained management. The company also acquired a production facility near Dresden, Germany, for €18 million in September 2025 to enhance manufacturing capacity, with operations slated to begin by fiscal year 2027 end, and continues pursuing additional EU factory opportunities amid robust demand. Further, Birkenstock Holding plc accelerated its direct-to-consumer retail expansion in fiscal 2025, planning 25 to 30 U.S. stores by 2027 from nine currently, alongside growth in Europe and Asia-Pacific, while launching new body care products under its Care Essentials line.
