Business
Ecoener, S.A. (ENER.MC) is a Spanish multinational renewable energy company that develops, constructs, promotes, manages, maintains, operates, and dismantles electricity generation facilities from renewable sources. The company generates and sells power through hydropower plants; wind farms; solar photovoltaic plants; energy commercialization activities; and other services, including storage projects under development. It operates 656MW in generation capacity, including six hydroelectric plants in Galicia, Spain, and one in Guatemala totaling approximately 55MW; eight wind farms in Gran Canaria, five in La Gomera, and two in Galicia totaling 104-107MW; and 182-264MWp solar capacity across Gran Canaria, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, and Colombia, with additional 159MW under construction and substantial pipelines in development. Ecoener maintains a presence in Spain, Honduras, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Panama, Ecuador, Canada, Romania, Poland, Greece, and Italy. Founded in 1988 and headquartered in La Coruna, Spain, the company, a subsidiary of Luis De Valdivia, S.L., changed its name from Grupo Ecoener S.A.U. to Ecoener, S.A. in July 2023. Ecoener targets sustainable development with projects integrated into local environments, serving electric distribution groups and contributing to international sustainability goals. Recent developments include securing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) totaling approximately $3,000 million (€2,600 million) across six markets for 723MW with an average 19-year term, boosting 2024 revenues 28% to €82 million and EBITDA 30% to €42.1 million. In September 2025, Ecoener won a 15-year Contract for Difference for its first 54.4MW wind farm in Romania, backed by the government with €85 million investment and 2027 commissioning, as the sole Spanish winner securing 5% of awarded wind capacity. The company eyes 1,000MW in operation and construction by end-2025, with 312MW nearing grid connection in the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Colombia; expansions into Panama with 50MW solar; new subsidiaries in Greece, Poland, and Romania; a Canada partnership with Wet'suwet'en Nation; prior €85.5 million financing; and new independent directors Baldomero Navalón and María Casares.
